When I began my natural journey in 2006, there weren’t many suitable products or resources geared toward women going “chemical-free.” As a result, like many women, I struggled with caring for my hair and bounced back and forth among relaxers and wigs and cuts and extensions. I tried most of the major product lines for natural hair, but they just weren’t cutting it. I simply could not keep my very tightly-coiled natural hair healthy. And more importantly, I couldn’t get it to grow.
But I so badly wanted to wear my hair in its natural state.
I reached my tipping point in January 2010. I was in my first trimester with my first child and was being more careful not only with what I put into my body, but also what I put on it. I was frustrated because I did not have the energy or proper products with which to maintain my hair. So, in a spur-of-the-moment decision, I stopped by one of those chain salons and had the stylist cut my hair down to a fade. I mean, you could see scalp!
Of course, I returned home and just a few hours later thought, “What in the world did I just do?” But the hair was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.
But before going off the deep end, I decided to give natural hair one more try - on my terms.
I began researching hair and hair structure, which led me to research natural ingredients that are known to nourish and strengthen hair. I then looked at the “natural” products I’d been using and discovered that most of the ingredients were either very bad for my hair, or simply unnecessary additives. So, equipped with the information I’d discovered, I decided to make my own beauty products.
My hair and skin have been thanking me ever since.
It started with a shea butter whip and grew until I was making my own shampoos, moisturizers, and oils. Soon, several other women were asking me what products I used on my hair and skin, and where they could get some. After a stylist-friend suggested that I begin selling my "concoctions" my own line of beauty products, November, was then born.
Using all-natural products has transformed my relationship with my hair as well as my skin and I hope it will do the same for you. My hope is that November will help you to harvest your natural beauty.
